Lefevre and Shawn Macpherson [founded Devtra in 1989](https://www.thechecker.net/stories/blog/bid/394228/Devtra-and-The-Checker-25-Years-Behind-Us-and-Looking-to-the-Future) to help U.S. and Canadian businesses improve equipment safety training with on-site training classes, which eventually led to the development of Devtra equipment training manuals. This training included instruction on equipment inspections, which steered Devtra toward the creation in 2000 of The Checker, which is now Devtra’s focus. “Many companies in the 1980s weren’t inspecting equipment at all, and many of those that did were using a hodgepodge of poorly designed handmade or manufacturer-supplied equipment inspection checklists,” Lefevre explained. “There was a lot of confusion, a lot of items being overlooked, and very little, if any, coordination or enforcement of inspections. That led to unsafe workplace conditions.” “To help companies across North America address this problem, we created The Checker to provide a consistent, easy-to-use, standardized format for checklists for hundreds of types of equipment.” Lefevre is quick to point out that a standard format for every inspection checklist doesn’t mean that the items on each checklist are the same. On the contrary, one of the key advantages of The Checker over other checklists is that each Checker checklist is designed with all the items that need to be checked to ensure the safety and optimal operating condition of *the specific type of equipment that’s being inspected.* In addition to checklist books, The Checker has launched The Checker Mobile, a SaaS offering that allows inspections to be done on mobile devices linked to inspection management software. Devtra can customize The Checker Mobile inspection forms to accommodate any type of inspection, safety audit, or risk assessment. - [** ](https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https://www.thechecker.net/stories/blog/bid/396393/Press-Release-25th-Anniversary&title=Press%20Release%20-%2025th%20Anniversary&picture=&description=For%20immediate%20release%20%20%20%20Contact:%20Shawn%20Macpherson%20%20%20Phone:%20905.825.0172;%20800.291.4719%20%20%20Fax:%20905.469.8831%20%20%20Email:%20%20info@thechecker.net%20%20%20%20Webs) - [**](https://twitter.com/share?source=https://www.thechecker.net/stories/blog/bid/396393/Press-Release-25th-Anniversary&text=Press%20Release%20-%2025th%20Anniversary%20-%20https://www.thechecker.net/stories/blog/bid/396393/Press-Release-25th-Anniversary) - [**](http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=https://www.thechecker.net/stories/blog/bid/396393/Press-Release-25th-Anniversary&title=Press%20Release%20-%2025th%20Anniversary&summary=For%20immediate%20release%20%20%20%20Contact:%20Shawn%20Macpherson%20%20%20Phone:%20905.825.0172;%20800.291.4719%20%20%20Fax:%20905.469.8831%20%20%20Email:%20%20info@thechecker.net%20%20%20%20Webs) ## Related Articles ## FREE eBOOK WHY INSPECT?
