It’s hard to believe, but The Checker is 25 years old this year. A lot has changed since we
developed, created and designed a formal inspection system. We started with just seven inspections for the most common industrial forklift and crane equipment and now offer over 70, along with inspection software, digital tools, customized options, and integration capabilities with modern systems.

The world of workplace safety has undergone significant evolution. Sensors, GPS, telematics, and inspection apps are now part of daily life. However, one thing hasn’t changed: the need to stop, check, and ensure your equipment is safe to use before the workday begins.

The Circle Check Still Works

From day one, The Checker has been built on the circle check method: walk around, check everything, log what’s wrong, and don’t cut corners. That simple act has prevented thousands of incidents and saved companies millions in downtime and liability.

No matter how advanced the equipment gets, there’s still no replacement for a human set of eyes looking at the machine from every angle. Even the most high-tech sensor won’t catch a cracked fork, a leaking hose, a dirty chain or a damaged crane cable. You still need someone to look, touch, and think. That’s where inspections shine.

Today’s Tools, Same Smart Process

We’ve come a long way from paper checklists on clipboards. Today, many of our customers utilize The Checker software to complete inspections digitally, using smartphones and tablets on the shop floor, as well as centralized dashboards in the office.

Data is easier to track, trends are easier to identify, and issues are flagged in real-time. That’s progress.

But the process? It’s still built on the same principles:

  • Check everything that needs checking

  • Record what you find

  • Act on what’s not right

Technology can enhance that, but it doesn’t replace it.

Designed to Be Used (Not Ignored)

One of the reasons our checklists have lasted 25 years is that they’re designed for real people, doing real work. The layout is simple, the flow makes sense, and the design hasn’t changed much because it didn’t need to. We also ensured our tools worked for everyone, from new workers to experienced operators. That commitment to universal design helped The Checker grow into the trusted brand it is today.

By maintaining consistency, we’ve made it easier for companies to train their staff, complete inspections, and demonstrate compliance. Because it works across all industries and job sites, it’s one less thing that needs reinventing every time a new piece of equipment rolls in.

Why Inspections Still Matter

After 25 years, inspections remain as crucial as ever, and perhaps even more so. As equipment becomes more advanced and regulatory requirements increase, one thing remains unchanged: the need to identify issues early and maintain safety. That’s why we’re still here, focused on helping companies protect their teams, assets, and bottom line.

Looking Ahead

As we mark 25 years, we’re proud to be part of a safety culture that continues to grow and improve. We’ve seen firsthand how inspections evolve, how businesses use digital tools, how fleets adopt preventative maintenance strategies, and how safety teams rely on real-time reporting. We’re proud that The Checker continues to support these efforts with reliable, flexible, and easy-to-use tools.

But whether you're using a checklist book, a tablet, or both, the foundation is the same: inspect before you operate. It keeps your team safe, your equipment running, and your business moving forward.
